Emergencies and Labor checks

 

Please call the office and speak to the nurse at extension 219 if you have an emergency or you think that you are in labor. Please use these guidelines as a reference when contacting the nurse:

 

 

  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Severe nausea and vomiting
  • Fever of 100 degrees or higher
  • Leaking fluid from the vagina
  • Cramping/contractions before 36 weeks gestation. (6 or more in one hour)
  • Decreased or absent fetal movement after 32 weeks (after fetal kick counts are done)
  • Severe headache unrelieved by Tylenol, visual changes or sudden swelling
  • Regular contractions every 3-5 minutes for one hour, after 36 weeks gestation

 

 

How to perform fetal kick counts:

  1. Eat a meal
  2. Lie down on left side in quiet room
  3. Place your hands on your belly
  4. Count until you feel 6 movements
  5. If you do not feel 6 movements in one hour, call the office
