What is Menospause?

The average woman goes through menopause around 51 years of age.

Estrogen is a hormone made mainly by the ovaries. As menopause nears, the ovaries make less estrogen. One of the earliest signs of menopause is a change in your menstrual periods.

You should call your doctor if you:

  • Have a change in your monthly cycle
  • Have very heavy bleeding with clots
  • Have bleeding that lasts longer than normal
  • Bleed more often than every 3 weeks
  • Bleed after sex

What should I expect during menopause?

Hot flashes

This is the most common symptom. Hot flashes are a sudden feeling of heat that spreads over the body.

Sleep Problems

A lack of sleep may be one of the biggest problems you can face when you approach menopause.

Vaginal and Urinary Tract changes

Loss of estrogen can cause changes in the vagina. The lining may become thin and dry. These changes can cause pain during sexual intercourse. It can also cause the vagina to be prone to infections.

Emotional Changes

Many women experience mood changes during menopause.

HRT ( hormone replacement therapy)

Most of the symptoms of menopause can be eased by taking Estrogen. Estrogen is used to treat the main symptom of menopause-Hot flashes, it can also help relieve vaginal dryness.

Hormone replacement that includes Progestin lowers the risk of enodmetrial cancer. HRT therapy can also protect against cardiovascular disease.Estrogen also protects against bone loss.
