The following medications should NEVER be used during pregnancy:
  • Ace Inhibitors
  • Accutane
  • Aspirin or products that contain aspirin (unless prescribed by a physician)
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID'S):
  • Ibuprofen, Naproxen (Advil, Nuprin, Motrin, Aleve, Naprosyn)
  • Cipro
  • Hormones: Estrogen, progesterone (unless prescribed by a physician)
  • Imitrex
  • Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)
  • Tetracycline

 

The Following herbs should NEVER be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding:

  • Goldenseal
  • Black cohosh
  • Penny Royal 
  • Angelica
  • Lobelia
  • Sinensis (Dong quai)
  • Motherwart

 

The following antibiotics medications can be used during pregnancy:

  

  •  Penicillins (V-cillin K, Ampicillin, Amoxicillin, Augmentin)
  •  Nitrofurantoin (macrodantin, Marcrobid)
  •  Erythromycin

     Azithromycin (Zithromax)

     

     

    *The following antibiotics can be used in the second and third trimester (after twelve weeks)

    •  Flaygl, and Bactrim/Septra-which is not to be used after 37 weeks

     

    • Antiparasites

    • RID, A-200 Eurax, Elimite 

     

    • Antidepressants

    If you are taking any antidepressants please talk with your provider 

     

     

               Decongestants/Cold and allergy Remedies:

    • Benadryl                                       
    • Tylenol PM
    • Chlortrimeton                                 
    • Saline Nose Spray
    • Coricidin Cold/Flu                          
    • Halls Tablets
    • Zyrtec                                            
    • Sucrets
    • Claritin                                           
    • Tavist Allergy
    • Tylenol Allergy

     

    The following remedies can be used in the second and third trimester (after 12 weeks), but ONLY for a maximum of one week. They should NOT be used if you have high blood pressure, or irregular heartbeat, or baby has been diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat.

     

    • Actifed Cold and Allergy/Sinus                       
    • Comtrex max strength                   
    • Benadryl Allergy Congestion/Sinus/Cold        
    • Tyenol sinus non-drowsy/night time
    • Benylin Adult Cough/Expectorant                  
    • Vicks dayquil
    • Chlortrimeton allergy/Decongestant
    • Contac Sever cold and flu
    • Dextromethphen
    • Drixoral Nasal decongestant
    • Guafenisen
    • Robitussin/CF/PM/Max strength cough/cold/honey flu/PE
    • Tylenol Allery sinus/sinus nite
    • Tylenol Cold complete/non-drowsy/severe congestion
    • Tylenol Flu night-time

     

    For pain:

    • Codeine (as prescribed), Extra strength Tylenol, Tylenol, Percogestic

     

    Indigestion/Heartburn:

    • Di-gel                          
    • Rolaids                   
    • Prevacid
    • Gelusil                       
    • Tums                      
    • Riopan
    • Mylanta                      
    • Gaviscon                
    • Tagamet
    • Pepcid AC                   
    • Maalox

     

    For Nausea:

    • Compazine                   
    • Reglan                      
    • Nestrex
    • Zofran                         
    • Dramamine               
    • Vitamin B6 10-25mg, 3-4 times a day
    • Phenergan                    
    • Tigan 

     

    For Diarrhea:

    • Imodium A-D

     

    Constipation:

    • Citrucel                           
    • Metamucil
    • Colace                            
    • Surfak
    • Milk of Magnesia
